Special exhibition: Phiz The Huguenot who drew Dickens

A display of the drawings and prints by artist Phiz, who worked with Dickens and other authors to bring their stories to life. Hablot Knight Browne, better known as 'Phiz', helped Dickens create some of his most memorable characters, from Sam Weller to David Copperfield, illustrating key novels over 23 years. Phiz was the descendant of Huguenots who anglicised their name to Browne early in the 18th century. Normal admission to the Museum applies.

 Hablot Knight Browne better known as Phiz  illustrated some of Dickens' most famous work, with expressive pen and ink drawings that were engraved and then printed. In this workshop you will have the chance to consider the importance of these images to the text, before having a go at making your own drypoint etched prints, using the same technology that the engravers and printers used in Dickens' time.
